Dr. Anja Opitz

Dr. Anja Opitz is Head of Section for International Relations at APB Tutzing, an interdisciplinary Think Thank in Tutzing. She is a founding member of MEIA Research and of the Global Health Security Alliance (GloHSA), an international alliance of experts working at the nexus of global health and security.

 

Anja serves as a subject matter expert for European Security and Defence Policy, Global Health Security and Security Sector Reform within international peacekeeping operations at the European Security and Defence College in Brussels and the German Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg. Prior to joining the Academy in November 2013, she worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck and worked as a Political Advisor in the German Bundestag.

 

Anja studied Political Science, Law and Economics at the University of Passau, where she was awarded her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. She composed her doctoral thesis on civil-military interaction within an integrated crisis management approach of the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP). In her research she focuses on Global Health Security, EUs Common Security and Defence Policy and Security Sector Reform. Her regional expertise includes the Middle and Near East and the Balkan countries.
